![]() ![]() Benefit from a non-destructive workflow with the ability to export original files.Īccess the new Efex Perspective plugin via the Selector Plugin. Here's a theory: there are people who use the Nik tools with Adobe (and also others, e.g. DxO thinks it can lure some of them to PhotoLab. DxO included PhotoLab 2 Essential at no extra cost with DxO Nik Tools version 2. Maybe DxO wants to keep PhotoLab 2 working as an additional option for these people, who are paying for DxO Nik Tools version 3, on the hope that one day they will also pay for PhotoLab 3 (or 4 or whatever) as an addition to or replacement for Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop. Even though I really like PhotoLab and ViewPoint, sometimes DxO does things that baffle me.This week, DxO released DxO PureRAW 2, the latest version of its RAW processing app and plugin. If you're not familiar with PureRAW, it takes the same great DxO DeepPRIME RAW demosaicing and noise reduction technology as DxO's all-in-one editor, PhotoLab, and lets you use it without changing your existing workflow. For example, if you use Adobe Lightroom, you can use DxO PureRAW 2 inside Lightroom to get the most quality out of your RAW files while still using Lightroom to perform all your edits. You can also use PureRAW 2 as a standalone app to prepare files before importing them into your photo software of choice. With PureRAW 2, it's now possible to process RAW files within the macOS Finder or the Windows File Explorer.Īt the heart of DxO PureRAW 2 is DeepPRIME. The technology relies upon artificial intelligence trained using billions of input and output samples. DxO writes, 'Thanks to billions of carefully selected input and output samples, the artificial intelligence 'learned' the two fundamental operations of any RAW photo editing process: demosaicing and denoising.' Traditionally, RAW editors perform demosaicing and denoising across separate steps, resulting in softer images with more noise. No need to worry Chris, since FilmPack is handled as a standalone application and licence, there is no need to even touch the installation: DXO PhotoLab 6 simply detects your installed FilmPack and enables it right away, that works flawlessly even for the trial version of PL6.'By contrast, DxO DeepPRIME adopts a holistic approach and combines the two steps into one, giving exceptional performance. DeepPRIME XD does not work on my Fujifilm X-Trans files! At least not those from X100V and X-Pro3, from what I gathered, X-T3 and X-T4 also aren't supported. ![]() The files indeed look even cleaner and preserve more detail, depending on the image it is sometimes more, sometimes less visible. It is slightly slower than the regular DeepPRIME, exporting a Pen-F RAW (20MP) to a full size JPG takes ~3 seconds on my computer, using the very same file but activating XD instead, the export takes ~4 seconds. Here are my first impressions pretty much only regarding the new XD noise reduction: They still offer a 31-day trial, so everyone can give the new version a try, PL6 installes flawlessly besides any existing versions of PhotoLab, so you don't have to screw around with your existing installation. I was very surprised by such an early release, since years DXO has released their image processing software around the end of October, usually within the last ~10 days, so having it now right in the first week was very unexpected.
